Supportive care, personalized for you

At Grand Lake Regional Cancer Center (GLRCC), we know that every cancer journey is different. That’s why we emphasize care on an individualized basis—including how you nourish your body and mind throughout treatment. While there’s no universal “cancer diet,” there are general wellness tips that may help many patients feel stronger, more comfortable, and more in control.

Here are a few ideas to explore—always check with your care team before making any changes:

Eat what feels right for you
Appetite and food tolerance can shift during treatment. Some people gravitate toward bland foods, while others crave higher-protein meals. Listen to your body and be gentle with yourself. Small, frequent meals can sometimes be easier than large portions. Nutrient-rich smoothies, broths, or fortified snacks can also provide helpful boosts of energy.

Hydration is healing
Drinking enough water is essential, especially if treatment causes fatigue, dry mouth, or digestive changes. If plain water is tough to tolerate, try flavored water, herbal teas, or electrolyte drinks (low-sugar versions are best).

Move when you’re able
Wellness isn’t only about food. Gentle movement like stretching, short walks, or chair yoga—when cleared by your doctor—can improve circulation, reduce stress, and even help ease side effects. Some days, rest will be the best medicine, and that’s okay too.

Rest is productive
Fatigue is common during cancer care, and rest is part of the healing process. Give yourself permission to nap, sleep longer at night, or take breaks when you need them. Don’t underestimate the power of quiet, restorative moments.

Stay connected
Emotional wellness matters just as much as physical. Talking with a counselor, joining a support group, or simply having a trusted friend to text can help ease feelings of isolation and bring comfort. You’re never alone—our team and your community are here for you.

Your Wellness, Your Way
Remember: no two cancer journeys look the same, and your approach to nutrition and self-care should be tailored to you. Our team at GLRCC is here to guide and support you—whether that means answering questions, recommending local resources, or helping you build a plan that fits your needs.
