The Grand Lake Regional Cancer Center prides itself on personal patient care, and excellence in healthcare. As part of the center’s comprehensive cancer treatment, the prone breast board will help the center live up to that mission.

Prone breast boards allow patients to lie on their stomach, lowering the breast from the patient’s chest. This is especially helpful for patients with heart and lung complications. The system essentially isolates the breast, which can spare the chest and lungs from exposure to radiation during treatment.

According to radiologists at The Ohio State University, the prone breast position reduced radiation side effects in some women. The design of the board allows the radiation to target the cancerous area more precisely, and can reduce any risk of damage to heart and lung tissue.

Summary of prone breast board benefits:

  • Easy to use
  • Comfortable
  • Radiation is administered more accurately
  • Potentially lessens side effects
  • Helps radiation avoid healthy critical structures
