5 Ways To Enjoy Healthier Holidays

Prevention & Awareness

December 20, 2018

Hoping to get through the holidays without an extra 5-10 pounds this year? We’ve got you covered with 5 ways to stay on track and still enjoy the holiday festivities.

Make Exercise Part of the Fun

Even in cold weather, there are plenty of ways to schedule in some family time outdoors. In milder weather, schedule in time for a brisk walk after the holiday meal. If the snow falls, pack up your gear and take the children sledding. (You can burn up to 300 calories in half an hour depending on how many times you walk up the hill!)

Limit Your Alcohol Intake

It’s fun to feel festive and to indulge a little during the holiday season, but practicing moderation will make you feel even better.

  • Drink water between your adult beverages to slow down the alcohol intake.
  • Sip slowly.
  • Use low-calorie mixers.
  • Keep your focus on your friends and family.

Catch Up On Your Rest

If you’re taking time off over the holidays, allow yourself to snuggle up under a cozy blanket and take a nap. Having some down time will help you go back to work rested and refreshed. You’ll be more productive and feel better too.

Stress Less

With all the hustle and bustle, it’s easy to feel a little anxious. Will you get it all done? But it’s OK if everything isn’t perfect. Remember to keep the real meaning of the holiday season in mind and try to enjoy the time spent with your loved ones.

Don’t Overdo It

With all of the gatherings and parties, it’s easy to overdo it – especially with all of the homemade goodies and treats wherever you look. Take smaller portions, especially at a buffet where you may be tempted to overeat.

With a little planning and thought, you can enjoy a healthy holiday season and feel better going into the new year.
